Friends are very important to all of us and especially for young people with chronic illnesses like arthritis. The DREAM team recently studied the experiences of young people attending the residential summer break from the perspective of peer support and the results have been recently published in

| Training issues in Adolescent Health | ||

There are currently no formal training programmes in adolescent health in the UK. Members of the DREAM team in addition to colleagues at Birmingham Children's Hospital, conducted a survey of staff to determine unmet training needs and two thirds of respondents reported that they had had no training in adolescent health. | Vocational issues for Young People | ||

In 2005, we carried out some research looking at vocational issues for young people with chronic illnesses like juvenile idiopathic arthritis. This was essentially in 2 parts.
The first part involved a focus group of young people with JIA attending BCH who met to discuss how they felt that JIA affected their career opportunities. For a summary of the results, read on....! This has been published in British Journal of Occupational Therapy 2006;69(3):98-105. Ask a team member if you are interested in seeing the whole article.
The second part involved national surveys of occupational therapists to determine their perceived role in addressing vocational issues with adolescents with JIA. For a summary of the results, read on....! |
